The golden autumn brings clear skies and pale clouds. As the first ray of morning light sweeps across the flagpole at Tiananmen Square, the Five-star Red Flag rises slowly against the rising sun. We celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is a grand festival for every Chinese, a moment for us to look back on history and gaze toward the future.

The term "National Day" carries far deeper meaning than merely a holiday. In On the Enfeoffment of Nobles, Lu Ji of the Western Jin Dynasty wrote: "At national celebrations, rulers alone enjoy the benefits; when the sovereign faces troubles, subjects share no hardship." In ancient times, "national celebration" referred to auspicious events such as an emperor’s coronation or birthday. Everything changed on October 1, 1949. The solemn proclamation from the Tiananmen Rostrum brought "National Day" out of the imperial court and planted it firmly across the land of China. In December of the same year, the Central People’s Government officially designated October 1st as the National Day of the People’s Republic of China. Since then, this festival belongs to all Chinese people who have stood up.
From the ruined nation in the autumn of 1949 to today, as China continues to break new ground on the global innovation landscape, the past seven decades have witnessed steady and resolute strides. Realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is an unprecedented undertaking. The path ahead holds both opportunities and challenges, inspiring us to seize the day and forge ahead.
In this golden October, our motherland thrives and people live in peace. Whether you travel to the capital to watch the flag-raising ceremony, reunite with family in your hometown, or stick to your post, this magnificent 77-year journey is built upon the efforts of every ordinary person.
